Importing error : Lookup reference could not be found

Hi,

My scenario is as follows:

1) I have Entity A and Entity B.

2) Entity A has a field called "Name_of_user_in_B".

3) Entity B has a field called "My_name".

4) I have a unique record in Entity B which has "John Doe" in its field called "My_name"

5) I'm importing a single record of Entity A with value of "John Doe" in field "Name_of_user_in_B". This field is mapped to Entity B field "My_name".

I get the error: lookup reference could not be found referring to this field, i.e. CRM cannot find matching name (although John Doe is definitely in a record in Entity B.

I've manually checked these fields, there are no leading or trailing spaces or anything. The contents of "Name_of_user_in_B" and "My_name" are same. How could I resolve this error the best way?

    Hello,

You should check that you properly mapped field to use for records lookup - exploringxrm.wordpress.com/.../resolving-duplicate-lookup-references-in-import-process

While importing there will be a primary key along with that a specific field which will be unique. Just make sure the value of user is unique not duplicate.

    Hi Vishnu,

there is no other John Doe in the database. I only get one record.

However, is it necessary that the field I'm referring to (i.e. My_name) needs to be a primary key?

    Hi Andrii,

it is mapped to the My_name field. I checked manually, the reference to My_name, i.e. John Doe is correct and exists only once in the database.

Can you please provide a screenshot that illustrates how your lookup field is mapped + screenshot of attributes that are used to resolve a lookup.

While you import and get to the screen where you see all fields you are importing>>scroll to 'Name of User in B', its a lookup; click on the lookup icon and map it to 'my name' and then try importing.

    Hi Andrii,

thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

the language is in Finnish, so I try to explain it here as precisely as possible as well as attaching the image:

    1) I'm importing records (Job applications) that have N:1 relationship to a Contact

    2) My import CSV file for Job Applications has a field called Contact_name which contains the name of the Contact to use as a parent of the Job application

    3) My import map has this Contact_name mapped to Contact's "full name" field.

"Contact_työhakemus = Contact of Job application"

    "Yhteyshenkilö = Contact"

    "Kokonimi = Full name"

Everything looks correct from configuration side. Try to play with coding of source file. That's the only potential issue I can see.

    Hi Theme,

the field you are mapping to ("full name") is a composite field in the contact, that's why you are getting error, you can try following steps.

    1. full name field in the contact consisting of two fields mainly "first name", "last name".
    2. If your data in the "contact" column (Excel sheet) is present in either first name or last name field in the Contact entity in CRM, then you can map it to that particular field.

Example : In excel "Contact"= John

In Existing Contacts "first name"= John.

then you can change your mapping to "Contact" to "first name".

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Andrii,

There were hidden quotation marks in the .csv file which were not visible unless opened in text editor. Excel didn't show these.

As the "Contact_tyohakemus" was the last field the value string in the field had a quotation mark when doing the import. Hence it was trying to match John Doe" with John Doe.

Works now, thanks for the help.
