MRP does not function after upgrade to GP2010 from GP9

Posted on by 60

I am upgrading to GP2010 from GP9.  I thought I was all set to switchover the production system and then I found that MRP doe not work correctly in the test system.  As far as I can tell, all settings are the same as in GP 9 and I can see the last regen in history.  However, the Purchase Request Resolution shows no items.

I looked at Item quantities and they seem to be correct.  However, MRP Item quantities do not match what is in GP 9. They are all zero.

Next I ran the MRP regeneration and it says it is running, but the MRP Regeneration Status window does not appear.  It does not change the results in purchasing.  It acts like there aren't any sales orders, but my open orders smart list shows the same open orders as in gp 9.

I can't find any reference to this issue so it looks like I did something uniquely wrong.   Has anyone seen this problem?  Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I can call the "Partner " on Monday, but I would like to fix it this weekend.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry to leave this hanging so long.  We went off into "What is wrong with our MRP setup?" land.   We came up with many things that need to be improved/fixed so it isn't a total loss. Solving the specific problem though, required some very specific help from Microsoft.  Here is the real answer.

We finally resolved this issue.  Our partner posted a similar message to mine on the PartnerSource forum and received an immediate response from Microsoft.  Among other suggestions, it was mentioned that there is a known bug in GP2010 when certain MRP ID fields begin with the letter 'Z".  Our company has had to cut back some and our production manager is doing all the buying.  His last name starts with a 'Z' and so his BuyerID starts with a 'Z'.

After creating a new BuyerID starting with his first initial 'E' and changing one of the items to the new BuyerID, it miraculously appeared in the Purchase Request Resolution Window.

This could have been even more problematic if we were fully staffed and He was only one of many active BuyerID's.  We probaly wouldn't have noticed the problem for a while.  So, if you are running GP2010, check to see if the BuyerID or other ID's start with the letter 'Z'.

Microsoft provided a replacement function to fix the problem and now all the items show up in the Purchase Request Resolution window as they did in GP9, even with the BuyerID starting with 'Z'..

I assume you may have this resolved by now, and none of my customers that use MRP upgraded from 9 to 2010, so I cannot say it is an issue or whatever.  Anyway, if still open, I would check the exclusion list, and the item resource window information to validate items are still planned.    That would be a start.   You might also regen the Low Level Codes in utilities.
