KB Articles search on Case Form requires wildcard (*) to return search results

Dynamics 365. After creating Knowledge articles in the Interactive Hub I'm having issues with one of my environments where the search will only find the KB Article when a wildcard is used in the search. I have another environment where it behaves just fine. I can't find any OOB configuration that would make the search work in that way.... I've tried setting publishing dates etc but even a straight draft article with no additional info just doesn't behave, whereas doing the same thing in another environment behaves fine. No odd plugins registered. At a loss.... all ideas welcome!
