Investment Project - Costs not capitalized

(0) ShareShare

In AX 2012 and CU10 we are having an issue in Investment projects due to the requirement to work without permanent inventory posting.

For that we set Post financial inventory to No.

Main Setup

Inventory management>Setup>Inventory>Item model group:  "Post financial inventory" = No

Project management and accounting > Setup > Line properties > Line properties > Capitalize costs = Yes

Issue:

If we create an investment Project with hour, expense and ítem costs associated we noticed that the costs for ítems are not delivered to WIP and then we are not able to capitalize them.

If we generate an estimate and check the results for capitalized and not capitalized total consumptions we see that all the ítem related costs appear as not capitalized not taking into account the line property we are using.

This only happens if we are working as expected with Post financial inventory to No. If we set it to Yes all the costs will be capitalized meanwhile the line property is defined as capitalized to Yes.

Is there any workaround to capitalize ítem costs (for purchase orders or consumptions) when Post financial inventory" is set to No?

best regards,

Gorka Santamaria

    Hi Gorka,

To my understanding, the post financial update is required for the project integration. Otherwise, indeed the costs are not financially posted, so also not on the project. What would be the reason to have this setting disabled?

    Hi Santamaria,

You need the financial postings for your items to get things capitalized. Why did you set the parameter to "no"?

    Hello Reinhard,

We are working that way. We generate the financial variances for the stock variations during the inventory closing.

Thank you for your fast response! To complete my previous answer:

Currently we are working without financial inventory posting and adjusting it during inventory closing as per requirement.

Working with projects, we have just this gap, nothing else.

We will like to add any cost that affects to the project where the property line has been defined as capitalized to yes. For example, if we consume one unit at 100 usd cost we are adding 100 to the project cost even there is no inventory adjustment at that point or voucher and then we will like to move it to WIP and capitalize it in the same way we are adding costs to the Project.

As per your quick answer is not posible without posting inventory financial then. Isn't it? Is it possible to move the ítem-cost to wip using a workaround?

    Best regards,

    Gorka Santamaria

    Hello Gorka,

You could possibly try using dummy items that you post on separate "statistical" ledger accounts as a workaround. Yet, I believe that such a workaround will quickly get complex, error-prone and make other things - such as inventory reconciliation - more difficult. Please reconsider whether you can activate the financial posting checkbox for your items as this is the way how AX is designed and works.

    All the best,

    Ludwig
