Good day,
During the process when you place the DVD on to the server then it request if you want to install GP, then the options available and then the characteristics under what characteristics do you select to install the modifier option.

I'm thinking that you are at the screen where it is asking you which additional modules you want to install. Some of the choices would be: Analytical Accounting, Manufacturing, Fixed Assets, Project Accounting, etc. If this is the screen, then you will only want to select the modules that you are going to use (and are licensed for). For instance, if you are not going to use Fixed Assets, do not install it. I do recommend you install the Professional Services Tools Library. There are some free tools included with that module that can be a big help.

I am not sure with what you mean by characteristics but if you follow through the installation manual until end modifier will be part of the products installed automatically, assuming you have the proper GP10 registration keys to activate the product. But then again if you are using TWO sample company you will get all the modules you wanted without necesary regs.
BTW as suggested in the past cases from this community, do not use the DVD GP10, download and use the latest installer from partnersource/customersource.
