Error: Metadata for page xxxx do not contain a control definition for control ID xxxx

After upgrading to form NAV2016 first release to CU09 I have been getting this error with some users when hitting some actions in some pages.

I have reset all their customization, I have re-compiled objects, delete zup files... and I have solved the problem with all of them... but one!

The problem is kind of tricky  since it happens sometimes (executing different actions) but, if the user tries like 5 minutes later it works fine which is absolutely weird.

Of course, other users executing same action in same page don't get this error... just this man...

Any suggestions?

Try reinstalling NAV for this user or give super rights for sometime and see if it works.

Ideally compiling all the objects from development environment (using admin user) should resolve this issue.

Also check user metadata and see the records for this user.

Try to delete the data for the page id from these tables and then recompile the object.

We have been seeing this error a lot with NAV 2016 CU7 and CU8. Mostly from the General Journal (Page 39) and with negative control IDs - mostly -107 or -105.

Our error is a periodic error and shows itself when the user posts or checks the journal. We have also seen it on one other page...

Sometimes (not always) it helps restarting the RTC. It always helped us to recompile the page in question.

Are the IDs you are seeing also negative?

I've been in dialog with Microsoft regarding this and they belive they solved it in CU9 (they say it was introduced in CU5).

Are you sure it is CU9 you have installed and not CU8 (according to blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/nav CU9 has NOT been released yet, but I know it is supposed to be very soon now)...

I actually have received a preview release of CU9 (because of my error reports) and have NOT seen the error yet (it was periodic, so I'm not saying it was fixed - not yet anyway). So it is possible you also have received a CU9 before it was released for some reason?? - that is why I'm asking :-)

What is your installation configuration? Does user has NAV client installed locally or he uses Remote Desktop? It might be connectivity issue of that particular user. For troubleshooting purposes, can you check, does this user have the same issues logging in to a different PC? And, does another user have issues using the PC of that user?

You're right Gert, I ment CU8, and... again, you are right: ID Controls are always negative.

This bug is driving me nuts... just shows up with one concrete user and it is randomly (usually doing the same Action at a Inventroy Pick Page).

Thanks Alexander, yes, this user is accessing NAV through a Remote Desktop. The truth is I have really suspected that it has to be a connectivity issue since it pops up and disappears randomly.

Yes, I already reinstalled that client.

Very important what you say about recompling using admin user... It really matters!

About user metadata, you mean Delete User Personalization (9191) ?

I also tend to think that it is rather external than internal NAV problem. If you use Windows authentication, I'm pretty sure that the issue will disappear if you will re-create the user in AD and then in NAV.

    Hi again Astur.

To my knowledge there is no workaround (other than recompiling the page in question - and it will only last for a while).

The good news is that in a couple of days 2016 CU9 will be released on the NAV Team Blog (blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/nav ) and that is probably the only existing permanent solution.

At least it is according to the Microsoft NAV Escalation Engineer I have been in touch with since I saw the bug the first time in CU7 on the 25th of May.

The bug was "improved" with CU8 - it got more rare at some of our installations.

But Microsoft, I and at least one other partner has been testing a solution (internal server tier build) since around 16th of June, and to my knowledge the bug is fixed.

Yesterday I received a pre-release of the coming CU9, and I've put it into production on a few customers systems yesterday and today, and they have not complained about this error since.

    Hi Astur,

According to this page (in Danish), then this sporadic error was fixed with NAV 2016 CU09.

I know you write that you've already tried with CU9, but I doubt that. Because CU9 was released July 5th, and you wrote this question on July 1st. So unless you have access to the cumulative updates, before they are released, then it have to have been an older CU.

    So try CU9.

(PS: Didn't see it had already been answered, now I cannot delete this post!)
