 Hi  all,

I am curious to know if Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2009 has got API to access the data in it or does it expose Web Services?

I am investigating on building a connector to pull data from AX 2009 .

Is it possible?

Can some one help me.

Thanks
Carol

    Hi Carol,

AX has the .NET business connector which you can use for integration with external applications. Using the business connector you will have access to all of the AX business logic and data. AX can also expose web services via it's Application Integration Framework (AIF). The AIF web services are based on WCF, and use the business connector for accessing AX logic and data. Hope this helps. --Tom

We would like to get the salesinvoices and saleslines from AX on our webserver so that we can automate the return procedure for customers. The return can be either a claim or a return since size of a shoe is incorrect.

I understand I can use the business connector and/or AIF. Are both usable from a .net webserver? And how authentication takes place for in particular AIF? I have seen some examples but the are for a Win32 api and not for a asp.net api.

And last but not least: what about licensing? We have 2 advanced management licenses and 1 business connector and would like to keep that.

    Hi J,

Both the .NET business connector and AIF are definitely usable from a .NET web server. There are several ways to use the AIF: file system, MSMQ, BizTalk, or web services. The AIF was designed primarily to be used within the network (intranet), which would use standard Windows authentication. That being said I've implement AIF web services on the internet with SSL, because it is based on WCF. This was not very well documented, and took quite a bit of effort to figure out the correct WCF configuration.
