MR 2012 CU15 & GP2016 R2 - Cannot retrieve databases - Connection Failed

Have GP 2016 R2 installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL 2012. Clean install of MR 2012 CU15 installs ok but configuration console will not take any input whatsoever for the Dynamics GP Connection information. It constantly tells us that it is unable to retrieve databases connection failed. We have tried every login imaginable, tried aliases for the SQL server. All other elements seem to be fine e.g. service account is a domain user with full admin rights. SQL is the default instance (SQL01). Logging into SQL Management studio works whether we use windows authentication or SQL login, but MR simply will not complete the install which is getting very worrying. Help would be appreciated. Looking at trying to install an earlier version of Dexterity shared components - have seen quite a few threads that that often works. Surely Microsoft have fixed this bug by now ???? Help please.

The issue was resolved by applying the hotfixes to MR 2012.These were not on the original median/file.
