Warehouse only mode - shared warehousing - planned cross docking

Hi all.

When warehouse only ode (WOM) was first launched I recall planned cross docking wasn't supported. Has that changed? And specifically for planned cross docking between legal entities using WOM?

Scenario:
  • LE1 = Financial entity
  • Purchase order (PO) fr 10 x item A is pushed into WOM legal entity - warehouse WH1 and become an inbound shipment order (ISO)
  • Create a transfer order (TO) in LE1 for x 10 item A, but only 1 on hand in WH1 so mark the missing x 9 on the TO line to my PO.
  • I have a cross dock template in place in WOM legal entity for WH1 that has consider demand based = marking and consider ISO on supply
  • I release the TO to become a outbound shipment order (ISO) in WH1
  • however ONLY the work for x 1 item A is create and NO planned cross docking

IS this scenario not supported in WOM for shared warehousing between legal entities? Anyone who can help confirm its not supported or tell me a trick I might be missing!
I have the same question (0)

Update. I found a way to achieve this. It needs more testing before I feel confident its robust. I will share in here once I feel confident it covers all bases. As I am guessing it maybe isn't so obvious.

Please do. I was going to test to see for myself but ...

Hi Danny, I would have posted this in the Dynamics AX WHS TMS Viva group, like you will have seen in the past, but after moving partners I've lost access and cannot get back into the new one!

As an update. As I suspected its fallen over at the back end when I try and process the message back into the financial legal entity. So with more testing what I found is flawed. So looking for another way.

I found I had to create planned cross docking in the financial LE to ensure it was on the outbound shipment order (OSO) in the WOM LE warehouse. And that does work in terms of the actual warehouse work then when i create another planned cross docking in the WOM LE warehouse as its on the shipment, but due in on an inbound shipment order (ISO). But when the message comes back that the ISO is received and tries to update the PO in the Finance LE it falls over saying "Cannot update load lines from shipment SHIP-000056 because its processing ownership is not internal." And I cannot cancel the planned cross docking in the financial LE for the same reason and same error!

I need to find a way to pass across the shipment to the WOM LE warehouse even though not on hand to avoid this planned cross docking being used. Which again isn't ideal as that means many lines could be sent across (if its even possible) that then dont have a cross dockable inbound shipment order. So it creates more issues!

I am starting to think it maybe isnt possible in this scenario.

Unfortunately I cannot find a way that is viable. Anyone with any insight please do chip in!

I have found I can create planned cross docking in the financial legal entity on the TO and that will allow a shipment to create and then this triggers the creation of an OSO in WOM. Then the WOM cross docking template kicks in on RTW of that OSO and i get the work but its not against necessarily the same ISO that links back to the PO in FLE. At also results in planned cross docking linked to the shipment in the FLE that just sits there and errors on posting back any ISO messages to register against the PO in FLE fall over and then later post (no confidence as no idea why it worked on one later).

I found something called a "Cross docking request" on the bottom of the OSO but cannot find anything to explain what this is and how its created. On MS learn Planned cross docking - Supply Chain Management | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn I found this below. But it sounds like this is something not related to the scenario here for shared warehousing where its in the same D365 environment just across legal entities. But I cannot find anything to tell me more?

If you're using warehouse management only mode (which uses inbound and outbound shipment orders), use the source system setup to define whether the release to warehouse process should convert cross docking requests (Outbound shipment order line cross docking) to markings before it evaluates planned cross-docking templates where the Demand requirements field is set to Marking.

To use this logic, specify the requested cross docking quantities as part of the Outbound shipment order line cross docking message data (OutboundShipmentOrderLineCrossDockMessages) that's linked to the Inbound shipment order lines message data (InboundShipmentOrderLineMessages) by setting the same value in the CrossDockSourceID field. You can monitor this data on the Cross dock requests tab on the Line details FastTab of the Outbound shipment orders page.
