Managing security across multiple environments

Hi there

I am new in a role of managing security in D365 F&O and have a question about best practice for managing security across multiple environments

We're a global organisation and will have 4 different instances of F&O, one for each region of the world (Asia Pacific, USA, Europe and Latin America). Each of these will have a dev, test and live environment.

We will be working with custom roles, and I want to know what the best way is to keep the roles/duties/privileges the same across all instances. There doesn't seem to be any easy way of doing this as far as I can tell.

I am managing the security through the UI rather than through code, as I am not an AX developer, but a security administrator

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Managing the security through "code" might make this easier, even if you might involve some other people in the process. Then the new security objects are managed centrally in source control, and deployed to all prod systems with your normal deployment process.

But if you want to manage it via UI, I think you should have one "master" (test, not prod) system where you configure the changes. Then export the configuration, store it in source control (so that you retain history) and import it to all four prod systems.

But you said that you have "dev, test and live environment" per each prod system. Do you mean that you have 4 codebases as well? Do you use one source control project/branch or four? If you have four different codebases, then I'm not sure how you could manage one security setup that would work with all of them.
