Hi everyone,

Is it possible to create reports for a CRM Online instance using FetchXML in Visual Studio 2017? Or do I need to go back to Visual Studio 2015 so I can use the data tools, or is there another way?

Any help appreciated!

Regards

Haris

Thanks for your solution. it is working for me. I have just one recommendation, download ISO file for SSDT instead of installing it fro EXE file.

    Hi Everyone,

Still no updated extension available and also no indication of an update coming soon, so looks like our only option is using VS 2015 for now.

I have investigated the option of modifying the 2015 extension installation in order to install on 2017 but the extension is not a .VSIX type and the config files does not contain any properties I could see that would resolve the version dependency error.

Here are the 3 steps and links you will need to go with for using VS 2015.

It took be about 4 hrs to get this done in the background.

    1. Install VS 2015 (I installed "Visual Studio Community 2015 with Update 3" as it is the free version.)

    2. Install SQL Server Data Tools for VS 2015

    3. Install the v9.0 Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension

And then for creating a report:

until 2010 it was available OTB when you installed VS.

as of now though, you need to install this extension:

after installing this extension, you need to create a "Report Server Project"

I personally have checked and used this method  On vs 2017 Enterprise Edition

    absolutely frustrating

And apparently still not in early 2019. So I'll waste half the afternoon installing VS 2015. And MS wonders why it's losing market share.
