Hi everyone,

Is it possible to create reports for a CRM Online instance using FetchXML in Visual Studio 2017? Or do I need to go back to Visual Studio 2015 so I can use the data tools, or is there another way?

Any help appreciated!

Regards

Haris

    Hi Muhammed,

You can add fetch XML reports in visual studio 2017 .

The Project templates are available, For SRSS you  need to add "Microsoft Report Projects for Visual Studio".

In VS2017, Tools/Extensions and Updates/   Click the Online option on the left. Then search for "reports". "Microsoft Report Projects for Visual Studio" will be in the list, Install it.

    Thanks

    Hope it helps :)

    Hi Ridhima,

Thanks for the reply. I have "MS Reporting Services Project" installed. I couldn't find "Microsoft Report Projects for Visual Studio". However, I have the templates and am able to connect to SQL Server. I am not able to install "Microsoft Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension" for VS 2017. In the documentation, the compatibility of "Microsoft Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension" is mentioned as VS 2015 (highest). So wanted to check if this is also compatible with 2017 or if there is any other workaround.

Usually until the version of the VS shows up on the list of supported versions, you can't really use it. It's been the case with  report authoring extensions all the time - they are always a bit behind.

That is correct. Although there is a SSDT for Visual Studio 2017, Report Authorizing Extension will not provide SSDT within Visual Studio 2017 to show Dynamics Fetch Xml Reports.

At this point, we are still waiting for Microsoft to release an update to Report Authoring.

    Hello,

    Any updates about that?

It's weird, that VS 2017 has been released some time ago, but RAE is not supported by newest enviroment.

    Is it?

I mean it is Microsoft, and this kind of behavior is expected from them !!!

Still it is not available for  VS 2017.

And apparently still not in early 2019. So I'll waste half the afternoon installing VS 2015. And MS wonders why it's losing market share.
