We have performed a bulk import of Dynamics 365 contacts from AAD. But, when an imported user attempts to log-in to the D365 portal they are always returned to the log-in screen. Why is this?
The authentication is working for non-imported contacts (new user), so it is something related to the import that is causing the problem.
An example imported record is shown below. I have noticed that no External Identities are set, whereas working contacts have a value set here – could this be the cause of the problem, and if so how would I fix this?
Any help will be much appreciated.

you are right. The missing external identity is the reason. In my case, I use Azure AD. In azure AD there is a value called user object ID which should match the external identity in the Contact record. You need to do that programatically I think as I'm not aware of any out of the box way of assigning this ID to the external identity. Read the last answer in this thread for more info
