Using Portal Add-on solutions on multiple organizations

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everybody,

For my client i have developed a Dynamics portal on Dynamics 365 Online. I have started to developed ( and learn) it on my dev organization/environment. But now i need to import it on my pre-production organization/environment ( and in the futur on production).

When i have started the portal add-on, solutions have been installed on my dev environment.

Now :

How i can installed portals solutions on my three environments ( dev , pre-prod° and prod°) ?

Because i can't import my solution (with personnal configuration like entities, templates ... ) if portal base are not in my pre-prod° environment.

How i can migrate my work after it ? ( I have read DataMigration tool from SDK could be a good solution)

Thank a lot for your help !

Natsirt

Excuse my english, still in improvement

Few ways to do this.  You can purchase additional add-on Portals for your non-prod environments. Or you can simply configure your Portal instance to point to one of the other Dynamics instances, doing this will install the associated solution packages into the environment but you can only have one live Portal at a time with this method.  Note: you can always switch back instances without loss of Portal data.

Once you have the Portal entities you can export the Portal records manually or use a third party tool (as per the one you mentioned, or the now unsupported Website Migration tool that used to come from ADXStudio) to move between the environments.
