Hi:

The error message shown below appears, upon refreshing the Power BI Service for the Power BI Finance App for Business Central.

What needs to be done to eliminate such duplicate G/L accounts in the Business Central data?

Thanks!

John

✅ Steps to Eliminate Duplicate G/L Accounts in Business Central Online
    1. Use Business Central Web Client to Identify Duplicates
    • Go to Chart of Accounts.
    • Use the filter pane to search for duplicate G/L Account Numbers:
      • Filter by No. and look for repeated values manually.
      • Alternatively, export the list to Excel using the "Open in Excel" feature.
    2. Analyze in Excel or Power BI
    • Once exported, use Excel or Power BI to:
      • Group by G/L Account No.
      • Count occurrences
      • Highlight duplicates
    3. Resolve Duplicates in Business Central
    • If duplicates are unintentional:
      • Merge or delete the extra G/L accounts (if not used in transactions).
    • If duplicates are intentional (e.g., across companies or dimensions):
      • Consider adding a unique identifier (e.g., G/L Account No. + Company Name) in Power BI.
      • Or create a calculated column in Power BI to ensure uniqueness.
    4. Update Power BI Model
    • In Power BI Desktop:
      • Ensure the G/L Account table has a unique key.
      • Modify relationships if needed to use the new unique column.
    • Re-publish and refresh the dataset.
Note: This response was developed in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.

@Sumit Singh: I just reviewed the Chart of Accounts.  No duplicates, exist.

What other area of Business Central, then, needs to be reviewed for eliminating whatever the duplicate is?

    Thanks, Sir!

    Hello @JE-20081519-0,

The error occurs because the G/L Account No. field in the Business Central data contains duplicate values (e.g., '1100'), which violates the Power BI model's many-to-one relationship or key constraints. To resolve this, ensure that the G/L Account No. column used as a key or relationship in Power BI contains only unique values. You can do this by removing duplicates in Power Query, checking for multiple companies or dimensions causing repetition, or adjusting your data model to include company or dimension context to ensure uniqueness.

Hope this answer will help you to resolve it!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni

    Hello,

The error in the Power BI Service for the Finance App indicates that the G/L Account No. column in the G/L Account table contains a duplicate value '1100', which violates the requirement for uniqueness in columns used as primary keys or on the one side of a many-to-one relationship.

To eliminate such duplicates in Business Central, you should review the G/L Account list and ensure that each account number is unique.

This may involve merging duplicate accounts, correcting erroneous entries, or adjusting the data model to avoid using non-unique fields as keys in Power BI.

Hi, hope the following can give you some hints.
Getting the "Column Entry No. in Table G/L Entries contains a duplicate value" error?

    Thanks.

    Hi John,

The error likely comes from duplicate G/L account numbers or names in your Business Central data. Check the Chart of Accounts to ensure each account number is unique. Also, review your Power BI query to remove duplicates or group by the account number. Once cleaned, refresh the dataset.

✅ Mark this as the verified answer if it helps.
