2016 / 365 On-premise Server License

Hi all,

We have been using a trial key for Dynamics CRM 2016 that has expired so have the 'Your trial period has expired' site message and need to get a server license key for it.
Due to our struggles to obtain a CRM 2016 server key (can you even buy them anymore?) we were told that if we purchased Dynamics 365 on-premise CAL's then they would be backwards compatible with 2016. However we did not get a separate server license.
I have created a new Windows server, installed CRM 2016 and SQL, and upgraded to 365 on-premise but still have Deployment Manager stating that we need 1 server license (as well as a pro CAL but that's another matter).
Is this just an advisory or will we get the same message 90 or so days later?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Did you have a previous version of Dynamics or is this a first time install?

    For On-Premise you need to have both the Server license and the Client Access License. You cannot run CRM On-Premise without the server license.

    Hi Aric,

    We have a 2011 server license. The project was to upgrade this to 2016. I was going to see if I could find the key and apply it but Windows wants to install updates so out of use for some time.

    Update - Unfortunately the 2011 key is not recognised in 365 on-premise. I'm going to install 2011 and go through the upgrade patch and see if that will resolves the problem.
