Adventure Works Theme - Header Navigation Menu

Posted on by 283

Hello,

We have started using the Adventure Works theme for a site we are building for a customer of ours. I noticed that with the Fabrikam theme, the navigation menu has a desktop view where the navigation menu items are visible by default and have drop down carots to view the contents of each of those hierarchies. When viewing the Header Navigation menu for Fabrikam on mobile, that same header navigation menu gets hidden in a hamburger menu.

However, with the Adventure Works theme, we have noticed that the navigation menu is hidden in a hamburger menu by default even on the desktop view. Is there a way out-of-box without a development effort in the SDK to unhide the navigation menu in the header for the Adventure Works theme?

Unfortunately, we have no plans to add that feature to the AW reference theme in the near future.

We do have a customer Ideas portal, where you can post ideas and others can up vote:

This doc should be helpful to understand everything a module is made up

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for the response. Do you know if we will have this option built-in in a future update? Also, is there a central place I can post or submit suggestions/desires for future updates to Site Builder?

As an aside, I have attempted to replace all header and navigation menu files for Adventure Works with those from Fabrikam, but have so far met with undesired results. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a module is made up of the view file, the scss file, and any definition extensions that may exist for that file, am I missing anything?

    Hi,

The design of Adventure Works reference theme does have some differences from the Fabrikam reference theme as you noted including the more hidden nav menu in the hamburger menu to maximize content.  Unfortunately, there isn't a configuration out of box to just switch, since the underlying html would need to change, but a change like this can be done as a customization to the theme.

Since you have the ability to get the source code for both themes, it shouldn't be too difficult to re-use some of the Fabrikam header module code in a custom theme you create based on the Adventure Works theme.
