Smartlist download to excel - blanks as date fields

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Good Morning,

I just performed a delicate procedure last night and now when I download any list from Smartlist to excel the date fields are EMPTY.   Not that they are formatted incorrectly, just blank.

I had to  Reverse a Historical Year, post some 2014 transactions, and then close the year.  I reconciled all years effected and even Checked Links on the financial module.  My financial statements for 2014 and 2015 are pulling fine in Management Reporter .

The only problem I see is Column "C" blank when I export to Excel.

Can anyone give me any ideas to correct?  I would not like to restore my backup.

Thank you

Marcia

    Good Morning Lynn,

Thank you for your suggestions.  It just so happens that I had performed my task the same night Microsoft releases their software updates.

I took the time to restart my workstation and server and let the updates go through and I am back to normal.

    Appreciate the info .

    Thank you

    Marcia

Do the dates show up in the Smartlist, when viewed onscreen? And they just disappear when you export to Excel? Or are they not in the SmartList at all?

If they show up onscreen, but not in Excel, try this workaround, to see if it works: export to Word (!) instead, and then copy/paste into Excel.

The reason for that suggestion is that this issue sounds similar to this known issue (2 informational links):

It's also possible that it's just a problem created because of improper use of SmartList Designer. I've seen problems where people accidentally "broke" the canned lists. To fix that issue, I just make a backup (you can never have too many), then delete the canned SmartList (gasp! I know).  Since you actually cannot delete the canned SmartLists, all "deleting" them does is to reset them. Once you log out & log back in, you should see your SmartLists restored.

Please note: I do strongly recommend that you engage with your Microsoft Partner for assistance with modifying your SmartLists, just until you become comfortable with the process. You don't want all your GP users hollering that you broke their reports!

Let me know if any of this helps.

    ~Lyn
