Updating early bound classes in CRM 2011 after adding new customizations.

Hi,

If I add a new field to an entity in CRM, and then regenerate the early bound proxy class file, I presume I have to rebuild any solutions that reference this file, eg. a solution with all my plugins, or workflow activities, and re-register them with the plugin registration tool? Even if the plugins themselves haven't been updated?

Thanks.

    ++ to Aiden,

    This will help you.

    but it's good to use the late bound rather than using early bound.

    That's more of a business decision than a technical one. You may want to update both so they have the same references, or just the one because the other works and doesn't need to be changed. There's not a right answer, just your preference really.

    Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply.

    I have the proxy class in its own dll. This dll is referenced by two separate projects. one project will be using this field, the other won't, and probably never will be. Would it be ok to have 2 versions of this dll referenced by each project? Or is that against best practice?

    Hi,

    If you're adding a field to your CRM, and you don't need code to use it, you do not need to update your plugins. If you want to add a field and reference it in code, you would need to regenerate the same as normal.

    Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden
