Importing Price Levels on Inventory Items

Hello:

Has anyone imported Price Levels for Inventory Items in Dynamics GP before?  I'm finding it difficult to figure out exactly how.  Here's the scenario:

My client needs to have approximately 18 different Price Levels configured on each Inventory Item set for Currency Amount with a specfic, designated price.

It doesn't appear that Integration Manager supports Price Level imports and I'm having difficulty with the Table Import embedded into Dynamics GP.

Any advice is welcome, including a work around, since I have no problem getting the Items imported in - just the Price Levels.  It's just that setting up the Price Levels for each individual Item will be MASSIVELY time-consuming.

    Hi Todd--

You are not a pain, no need to apologize.  Here is an example of what you could do. Also, in integration manager, when you install, there are sample integrations.  The item one will show you what you need to do.   But also, if you are associated with a Dynamics Partner, you can get access to PartnerSource.  On PS, you can go to training, and download the training materials for the Integration Manager course.  In the training manual, there are some labs that use the same concept of two source files like this.

Let's say you have one source file with the following fields:

    Item number

    Price level

    Amount

    Currency ID

In integration manager, add two sources to your integration, both looking at the same source file.  Call one header, and one detail.

On the header source, click on the Sorting tab and group by Item Number.  That will essentially create one record per item number.

Then in relationships, relate the item number from the header source to the item number in the detail source.

Then in destination mapping, map the main item number on the mapping to the header source item number.  Then map the price list information to the fields in the detail source (and make sure, on the options tab of the price list node, you have selected to use the detail source).  This will establish the idea that you have one item, but multiple price list entries.

Let me know if you have q's...

     Take care,

    Christina

    Christina:

Okay, I'm a dumby.  I see how I can add multiple Sources in Integration Manager and then define a Query Relationship (reminds me of Access), but I'm not quite following how the import files should be configured.

If it's too much trouble, it's cool, but is there a way you could explain this step-by-step?  Or direct me to somewhere I might find step-by-step instructions?

    Sorry to be a pain...

Well, let me know if you can't figure it out once you get in to it.  Integration Manager can work well, but it can also be a bit frustating.  Glad you like the blog! We are all pretty new to it.

    Thanks, Christina, once again.

I'm not following exactly, but you've given me inspiration to delve deeper.  I must admit, I'm relatively new to Dynamics GP, although I've been a consultant on various other applications for a number of years.  I'm trying to get the importing down, so I really appreciate your patience and help.

Your blog is precisely the kind of information I LOVE, so I bookmarked it.  Thanks.

Have a great night and put the computer down! :-)

You just got lucky, I was being a workaholic tonight :)

Yes, it will allow you to import 18 at a time.  You just will have to do a grouping on the source by item number, to establish a header source with one record per item.  And then a detail source with the 18 records, and a source relationship between the item numbers in each file.

Make as much sense as mud?

Thanks so much for the quick response.

I see what you're referring to; does this allow for the importing of multiple Price Levels per Item?  My client needs 18 per Item setup.

If not, I imagine I can just run 18 different updating imports.

    Thanks, again, Christina.

Re: Importing Price Levels on Inventory Items

    Hi Todd--

Depending on your requirements, integration manager does allow for the importing of price lists to each item.  It is part of the item master import, which can be set to update existing items.  In the destination mapping, there is a Pricing node, with Items below it.  The Items object allows you to import Price Level (for the item), U of M, Percent, Price, and Currency ID.  Not sure if you ran in to other issues?

    Take care,
    Christina
