I would require to customize the login screen for MS dynamics GP ver 9.0. I am trying to restrict certain users from logging into the system. So I need to capture the login name and take appropriate action.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

    Re: Customizing the login screen

Thanks for all the replies. I have 140 concurrent users and it would not be a ideal solution to untick the company access.

I have an attendance system running and if I can capture the login name from GP, I would validate it with the attendance system so that if the user has not marked the attendnace he wouldn't be able to login to GP. Thus users cannot share their GP passwords to an extend.!!!

What exactly I am looking for is to capture the login name at the earliest possible point during the login process. Any help is highly appreciated.

    thanks

    Re: Customizing the login screen

I would check out Fastpath.   I believe they have a module that can authenticate domain users.   If they use another users domain account, then that would not work either.   I would put a stoppage to the sharing as if something gets affected, the user who logged in will be responsible.   Usually if a job is on the line, it may help users to think twice about sharing password info.   I am not an expert on domain users but have heard a bunch about Fastpath.

If you already have users set up in GP (and you need the record here for some other reason such as accessing GP data from a custom application), you could leave the GP User ID in place, but use security to stop them logging into any company.

Tools >> Setup >> System >> User Access...untick all companies for the user you need to block..

Unticking here will remove their Role record. So, if you wanted to re-add them to a company later you would need to reset their user role / Modified Forms and Reports ID etc.

Not sure how you would trigger (within GP) to capture a user that is attempting to log in. An entry isn't inserted into the ACTIVITY table in the DYNAMICS database until the user selects a company.

Well, if you want to restrict users manually you can change the status of users from Active to Inactive, User Access Setup > give rights to the company when user is logged in, you may also automate it with simple macros.

    Re: Customizing the login screen

Thanks for the reply Leslie. But i want to restrict those users who already have an userid provided otherwise why to worry !!!

I have an attendance system in which I can pull out the names of the employees who are present in the office. What I am trying to achieve is to enable login to only those who are present thus avoid password sharing also.

Once the user enters his username and password, before proceeding further I need to run a check if this username has already marked his attendance (which I can do myself).

    Re: Customizing the login screen

You can prevent them from logging in by not giving them a user ID. I assume there is more to your question that makes it more complicated. Please provide more information on why you meet a customization.

    Kind regards

    Leslie
