I'm currently learning AX 2009. I'd like to know as an HRM Functional consultant that is it a feature of AX that jobs could be common but positions are unique to an employee. If yes then why is it that there exista a feature to add position individually . It may be serving some purpose . May I know the same.

It is correct that Jobs are kind of common and positions are unique.
I don't know if I understand your question, but assigning a position is also related to dates. So it is possible to have multiple people assigned, but not within a same date range.
