Microsoft Business and Advanced Editions

Hi

I have a situation where I want to purchase the Cash Manager module.  I am presently using the Professional Edition for SL and under this Edition I believe that all modules were purchased as a 'single unit' in the earlier days.

As a result, I am being told that in order to get Cash Manager module I need to go to Business Essential Edition. and under the Business Essential a la Carte I will get the Cash Manager free together with other modules listed.

However, could someone verify this for me, as I am seeing something totally different on Microsoft site from what I am being told.   From my understanding, I will definitely need to transit to Business or Advanced Edition, but the Business Edition does not give me Cash Manager.  Therefore under the Business Essential a la Carte I can then purchase the Cash Manager Module separately.   The modules listed in the Business Essential a la carte is not free.

Could someone kindly verify this for me?

Thanks so much.

Regards

    Lisa,

Who is telling you this?  I have many clients still on the Professional Edition (did not see the benefit over the cost of migrating to either Business Essentials or Advanced Management).

Back in the days of Professional and Standard licensing models, you paid for the # of users, and the modules you wanted to use.  Now, it's all bundled.

Active sites with valid and current maintenance plans s/b able to purchase a la carte modules that are available in their respective Editions.  I have had Professional Edition sites purchase Cash Manager, Quick Query Editor, etc. in recent years (after the new licensing models were released), and it was no problem.

Don't know if the rules have changed recently, but the SL Price List (which hasn't changed since 06/2015) shows that this can be done.

    Hi Mark

    Thanks for the response.

I contacted the Microsoft Partner where I purchased SL and they gave me this information.  I found the information given was a bit suspect so I did my own research and found an article that gave different information.

My company is on Professional Edition, but they want to purchase Cash Manager so what this Partner is telling me, is that I need to transit to Business Essential then I will get Cash Manager and all the modules identified in the Business Essentials a carte I will get free.  However, what you just mentioned is that we could purchase Cash Manager without having to transit to Business Edition?   Is there any advantages or disadvantages?

I am curious that this Microsoft Partner is giving me wrong information.  Is there any financial benefit to them by giving me this information?  Due to the transit they also mentioned that my service plan will decrease to a certain among.

    Regards

    Mark,

I forgot to also mentioned that we are on Dynamics SL 7.0.  Going to upgrade soon.  You think that will make a difference?

I do not think so, but would love to get your suggestions.

It sounds like a couple of answers got combined. You can remain with the grandfathered module based license model. You can't purchase additional modules for SL7 since it is an unsupported release.  Upgrading to SL2015 is required to purchase Cash Manager from the SL price.

Business Ready-Business Essentials doesn't include Cash Manager, but it can be purchased a la carte. Business Ready-Advanced Management includes Cash Manager in the bundle.

You didn't mention if you have remained current on your enhancement plan with Microsoft. If the plan has lapsed, the missed payments + a late fee are charged to reinstate the plan before you can upgrade. Your reseller may have compared the reinstatement cost to stay with your existing module based licensing, which could be more than a purchase of a new business ready license.

    Brian,

Thanks for your contribution to my question.

From your response, I gather that the company can upgrade first to Dynamics 2015 and having upgraded they could then purchase Cash Manager as a single module rather than going to a new Edition?

The thing is, the VAR is stating that after going to Business Edition, they can get all modules outlined in the Business Edition a la Carte free.   Is that right?

In addition, by going to Business Edition from Professional Edition will there be a decrease in their service plan?

Just making sure that when I speak with the FC that I have all areas covered.

There is no reinstatement fee, the company has been paying their annual service maintenance plan every year.

    Hi Lisa,

Since the customer has remained current on an enhancement plan, the Cash Manager module may be purchased from the price list without changing to a business ready license. The CA license key that Microsoft will provide will only be for SL2015, so an SL upgrade must be done before CA can be used.

The Business Ready licenses bundle together what used to be sold as separate modules. Not every module is included in either edition of a Business Ready license. Cash Manager is one of the modules bundled in the Advanced Management license, while changing to a Business Essentials license would still require a separate purchase of the module. The incremental cost of adding Cash Manager to either plan where it is not already bundled is the same.

The service plan is a percentage of the list price of the modules. There can be a change in their annual enhancement plan cost. The reseller should be able to provide a comparison of the annual cost if remaining on a module-based plan vs. moving to a Business Ready plan.
