Best way of temporarily removing user access

Hi

In preparation for our future upgrade from 2013 to 2015 we would like to temporarily prevent user access to the database, at least as far as editing rights. What's the 'best' way of doing this without it causing any future issues eg so we don't have outlook client syncing issues or permission problems etc. So far I'm considering one of the following

  • disabling user accounts
  • removing security roles
  • changing crm db to read-only

Can anyone advise who has successfully done this before?

Thanks

    Hi

Removing the security roles is definitely not a good idea if you're having a lot of users with different roles. Also playing up with the DB is not optimal as Dynamics provides mechanisms to restrict your users execute specific actions.

I think you can play around with the Access Mode: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg328485(v=crm.6).aspx or disabling could be also an idea for on-premise.

    Cheers

How you manage users depends on the version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM that you have.

    (disable everyone but the administrator)

    1. Go to Settings > Security. (How do I get there?)
    2. Choose Users.

    3. In the Enabled Users view, select the checkmark next to the user you want to disable.

    4. On the Actions toolbar, select Disable.

    5. In the Confirm User Record Deactivation message, select Deactivate.

    Hi,

Changing CRM DB to read-only or removing security roles can not be good option. You can simply disable the users as and when required, thus maintaining their security roles as before.

Thanks all - certainly seems that disabling/enabling is the preferred option.
