Best Practice for Azure Tenant Structure with Multi-Company Business Central Implementation

Hi Experts

I’m looking for guidance on the recommended Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) setup for a Business Central implementation.

In our case, there are multiple companies, each currently operating under its own Azure tenant, but the plan is to deploy one shared Business Central environment containing separate companies for each legal entity.

I’d like to understand:

  1. Can a single Business Central environment be used across multiple tenants?
  2. Or must all users and domains be consolidated into a single tenant?
  3. If consolidation is required, what’s the best-practice approach for migrating or synchronizing identities from the other tenants?
  4. Are there any supported alternatives such as B2B guest access or cross-tenant synchronization that allow users from different tenants to access the same Business Central environment?

Any official Microsoft references or architecture recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi, hope the following helps.

However, what the documentation mentions isn't absolute; you can invite a guest user so they can also log into BC.
But please note that guest users cannot use any integration features with Microsoft 365 or Power Platform, as this will point to their original tenant.

    Hello,

Business Central only supports one Entra (Azure AD) tenant.
→ Choose one tenant to host BC.
→ Either migrate all users there or use B2B / cross-tenant sync so users from other tenants appear as guests.
That’s the supported and recommended Microsoft setup.

    Hi,

A single Business Central environment can only be linked to one Microsoft Entra tenant. Users from other tenants cannot access it directly.
    Options:
    > Consolidate all users/domains into one tenant.
    > Use Entra B2B guest access and license guests in the BC tenant. Cross-tenant synchronization can automate guest provisioning (Guest users may face limitations with Microsoft 365 integrations).

Microsoft best practice: Use one tenant for shared BC environments.

    Thanks
    Rishabh
