Decimal errors on resource assignment/booking

Hi All,

When assigning duration and effort to a resource, the system tries to split this effort out over the duration e.g.:

This can cause some issues when trying to convert a Generic resource into a named.

The system will try to book 99,97 hours and hereby not fulfill the Resource requirement -> The named resource will not be displayed in the task-list..

How do you guys deal with these fraction decimals that are quite annoying.

Thanks!

    Hi Mads,

Yes, this happens and it seems to be linked with the fact that the numbers are not rounded. Tasks are broken down to hours (if that's how you set it up) and they consider the calendar of the assigned resource you chose as well.

Normally, if you work this way you avoid this behavior:

-If your resource (generic or real) works 8-hours a day, try and break down their tasks considering those 8 daily hours.

Example: I booked 40 hours for user A (in this case my Effort is fixed- very important to note this). The system will consider 8 hours a day and display the duration as 6 days, but instead I decided to split the 40 hours into 6 days so I don't lock my resource into one project (by changing the task duration to 6 from 3). This way, you will generate rounded numbers (4hours a day) that will not conflict with the Schedule Board when you book these later.

As long as you divide the hours by two you can get that sweet spot! Note, though that they will push an update to help us divide this allocation in a better way: https://experience.dynamics.com/releaseplans/?q=project+operations&app=Project+Operations&amp%3Brp=all-plans&status=new&rp=all-plans&planID=0b39257e-cf2e-ed11-9db1-0022482d32a7

Hope this helps. Please, mark this as answered. Thanks.
