Learning making customized reports and dashboards

Hi All,

Could anyone share the link of learning how to make custom reports and custom dashboard. In out of box crm, we have limited capability. so i want to extend it through customization. Also, i would like to know few limitations that applies dashboards:

1. can we make any number of custom dashboards in online version?

2. is there any data limitations for showing reports or dashboards?

3. There are thousands of transactions that would run in reports and dashboards, so any limit there?

4. Most reports need transactions data including history of several months. Will there be any restriction if we implement these dashboards on the online Dynamics CRM?

5.Will there be any restrictions on the amount of data a dashbaord can extract and process on the online instance of Dynamics CRM?

    Hi!

     

    1. can we make any number of custom dashboards in online version?

    Yes, you can create as many dashboards as you like.

    2. is there any data limitations for showing reports or dashboards?

    Yes, the reports/charts run using FetchXml, which has its own limitations.

    3. There are thousands of transactions that would run in reports and dashboards, so any limit there?

    It really depends on your CRM Infrastructure.
    Just keep in mind that every dashboard/chart translate to a database Query.

    4. Most reports need transactions data including history of several months. Will there be any restriction if we implement these dashboards on the online Dynamics CRM?

    Yes. Crm Online only shows up to 5.000 records per page and aggregate at a maximum of 50.000, if your query aggregates more you get an erro.

    What we ended up doing was to copy the Data we wanted to a SQL database, create a custom entity to consolidate the data and then use this entity to build the big reports/charts.

    5.Will there be any restrictions on the amount of data a dashbaord can extract and process on the online instance of Dynamics CRM?

    Yes. 5.000 records per page and 50.000 records per aggregation.
