Time sheet posting to Projects

Hello,  I've been trying to figure out how to utilize the project series in BCentral.  But for the life of me, it seems as though it just doesn't support posting timesheets to a job.  I've gone through all the on-line training, (but its mostly obsolete so that just leads down dead ends).  I get to the point of approved time sheets on task lines with the resource set to budget+Billable.  But when I go to the Resource Journal and use the suggest from Timesheets, it always comes up zilch.

I need some real documentation or help.  Anybody?

    Hello,

You’re correct that approved timesheets can be posted to jobs, but they won’t show up in the Resource Journal if the timesheet lines are linked to a Job — they must be posted from the Job Journal instead.
Here’s how it works per Microsoft’s official process:
Approve the timesheet for the resource.
Open the Job Journal (not the Resource Journal).
Choose Suggest Lines from Time Sheets → this pulls approved job-related lines.
Post the journal — Business Central creates Job Ledger Entries and updates costs/billing.
If the timesheet isn’t tied to a Job (type = Resource), then use the Resource Journal instead.

    Regards,

    Hi Greg,

Yep, BC does let you post approved timesheets to Jobs using the Resource Journal, but it only works if everything’s set up just right. If “Suggest Lines from Time Sheets” gives you nothing, it usually means something’s missing or doesn’t match the filters.

    Here’s what to check:

    Resource Setup

    • On the Resource Card:
      • Make sure Use Time Sheet is turned on
      • Assign a Time Sheet Owner User ID
      • Link the resource to a Job Planning Line with a Job No. and Task No.

    Time Sheet Line Setup

    • Each line should:
      • Be tied to a Job Task
      • Have a Work Type Code that maps to cost/billing
      • Be Approved
      • Fall within the posting date range of your journal batch

Using “Suggest Lines from Time Sheets”

    • Go to the Resource Journal
    • Pick a journal batch
    • Click Suggest Lines from Time Sheets
    • Set filters like:
      • Date range
      • Resource No.
      • Job No. (optional)
    • If nothing shows up, try widening the date range or removing filters

Unfortunately, I've tried everything everyone mentioned.  The only suggestion I can't try is the Job journal approach.  I can't find a job journal.  and the Project journal doesn't offer the Suggest from time sheet option, so I suspect that the wrong place to be as well because re-entering time to a journal manually doesn't make sense.

    Hi, good day
I hope this can help you, and give you some hints.

The Job Journal has been renamed to the Project Journal, so that's what you need to open.

In the journal you need to click on Prepare -> Suggest Lines from Time Sheets. This will populate all approved time sheets in the journal. After that, you post the journal to transfer the journal lines to each corresponding project.

    Thank you @Valentine Castravet!

I'm not sure how I missed the Prepare so many times before other than my focus was on the wrong window, (resource journal).  The time sheets now come in.  However, The Line type is not defaulting and seems like that should flow from the project line in the task.

Oh, the line type doesn’t default automatically, it needs to be filled in manually in the journal after you add lines using Suggest Lines from Timesheets. I should have mentioned that earlier.
