NAV versions overview

I am in charge of development and maintenance of a DataCollector tool which retrieves data from Navision and Axapta (among others).

Between database versions several datamodels alterations take place. Therefore it is crucial for my software to be able to retrieve which version my software is connecting to in order to be able to determine the appropriate queries to use.

To retrieve the Navision version I use the query below:

   SELECT databaseversionno FROM [$ndo$dbproperty]

However ... it seems to be quite difficult to retrace on the internet the possible version numbers and the corresponding build numbers. Right now - for example - I receive a build version 70720 for a Navision2013 database. Is the 70000 in there a 'translation' for version 7 of Navision? And does the 720 in it represent the number of updates applied to this version 7?

My Navision2009 test database (Navision 6 actually) came with a version 120 ... which is again totally not analogue to the 70720 I receive from the Navision2013 version.

Can I assume that anything >= 120 and < 70000 is a version 6\Navision2009 database?

Could you offer me a complete overview of all the version and the corresponding numbers?

    Do you see NAV installation? Just check the Help->About in NAV client. If you use this, you will get very useful version numbers.

    You can find some help on http://letstalknav.com/?p=412

    I am sorry Aleksandar but that does not help me. I don't use one or two different NAV versions. Actually, I don't use one at all ... but my customers do. My tool however needs to be able to figure out all on it's own which version the customer has. Therefore I need a suitable query for all possible versions. And ... I want to know all versions my tool could encounter.

    with each hotfix deplyed by msft the versión number changes

    for NAV 2013 R2 starts with 7.1 and with NAV 2013 starts with 7.0

    the last 5 digits means the build, in 2013 the last build is 36076 so the complete bulid number is 7.0.36076.0

    if you want to check the build list created by the hotfixes you should go to mbs.microsoft.com/.../NAV2013AppHotfixOverview

    you need to login to the partner soource to see the link

    Hi XJ12L,

     I didn't find official documentation about this but I retrieved the version numbers from my databases and seems that:

    Navision 4 SP2 = 40

    Navision 5 / 2005 = 80

    Navision 5 / 2005 SP1 = 95

    NAV 6 / 2009 >=120 and <60200

    NAV 6 / 2009 R2 >=60200 and <70200

    NAV 7 / 2013 >=70200 and <70720

    NAV 7 / 2013 R2 >=70720

    Now THAT is something I can definitely use! Thanks so much Sergio!

    Do you have the possibility to go back in (version) time as well?

    Hi XJ12L,

     I updated my post with more info, I'm sorry but I don't have the missing version/build to retrieve all the data.
