Doe anyone know of an add-on reporting tool for Dynamics SL (that is embedded within SL)..?

The reason I’m asking, is that I have made use of the Quick Query tool, but it seems to time-out on some large reports (from a custom VIEW I have built)… however, when I run a select * from the VIEW, directly in SQL Server Management Studio, it returns a result in under 30 seconds.. (and does not timeout)

We used a product called Inquiry.  Similar grid based output but more selection controls that QQ.

I'm expecting delivery of the hotfix mid February. If you would like to email me for a copy, feel free to do so - james.solomon@immix.co.za

Hi Brian - No i didn't change anything extra. I logged a call with Microsoft support, and they are building a hotfix for the QQ.exe file. I'm hoping it will only query it once, and not 3 times (as mentioned above).

Hi James - Did you have a chance to either modify your custom view or add an index that includes the fields being searched? I'm curious if either approach improved the QQ performance. I've worked with just modifying the standard views, and haven't seen the speed issue that you reported.

Is your custom view able to use an existing index? It wouldn't change running through the view 3x, but having an index available for the view could speed up the process.

    Hi Rick

I know of crystal reports, but the report doesn't give the same interface options as QQ screens do...

Dynamics SL includes Crystal Reports so you should be able to create a report using your view.  You can then add that report to your Dynamics SL menu by taking the necessary steps to adding a report.  these include adding the report to screen maintenance, adding the report to report control maintenance, adding the report under menu maintenance and granting rights to this report under access rights maintenance.
