I am the SQL DBA that supports the backend of GP so not too familiar with the front end of GP. My Accounting user is having problems running a Smartlist of Account by Segment under Account Transactions so I was going to try and run it in SQL. Is every Smartlist supported by a SQL view? And if so, how do I find the view that runs this Smartlst? If it's not a view and just a SQL query on some joined tables how do I see that? So essentially is there a way in GP to see the underlying SQL code that is being run for each Smartlist? We do not have Smartlist Designer.
Hi Linda,
Does your company have installed the Excel reports that come out-of-the-box with GP ? Those canned Excel reports (and also SSRS) use the same underlying SQL views that most SmartLists do.. this way you can easily identify which SL uses which SQL view when looking at the corresponding Excel report (most SL's are paired with an equivalent Excel / SSRS report).
The reports can easily be deployed in GP under Administration > Reporting Tools (or something similar).
Deploy them to a network share, so they can be used by each GP users.
PS: The SQL views have user friendly names in general, like "AccountTransactions"... so they are easy to find.
We do have the excel reports installed. I will take a look at those and see if I can find what my accounting user needs. Thanks!
