Dynamics 365 Portal Included with Subscription?

Posted on by

It was my belief that one portal "instance" gets provisioned to a dynamics 365 subscription, but I am returning to work on portals after a short hiatus, and now I do not see the portal add-on section in the admin tab for dynamics 365. Also, when I try to go to the portal URL, it is not found. I'm wondering if I was mistaken about having a built in portal license and instead I was using a trial version that expired? Or is it possible that a downgrade in my office 365 security level could be causing the problem? ANy help is appreciated, thanks.

RE: Dynamics 365 Portal Included with Subscription?

We have more than 5 Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Professional licenses. I can't for the life of me figure out if that comes with a portal or not. I see that I had a portal trial that was deprovisioned in march, but I've used a portal on one of my sandboxes as recently as early September. I now cannot access it via the admin center, nor can I access the user facing site through the URL of the portal. The solutions that were initially added for the portal installation still exist in my sandbox. Any ideas?

If your subscription has 5 licenses or more, and you are unable to set up the Portals, you should contract MS Support to fix that issue for you, as you are entitled to it.

Do you have 5 user licenses for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement?  If so, you will have a portal entitlement and you should see it under the Applications tab in the Dynamics 365 Admin screen in the Office 365 Admin portal.  If you do not have 5 licenses, you won't have a portal entitlement.  If you need more portals than you have, simply go to subscriptions and expand the add-ons and you can purchase additional portals as an add-on.

Thanks for your replies. I was re-instated to a global admin on O365 and I still cannot see any portal. Does this likely mean that I'll have to purchase a portal subscription? Thanks in advance.

The current requirement is to have at least 5 licenses (between Plan or App, Team member are not counted) in order to have an instance of the Portal.

You are correct. A Dynamics 365 Enterprise Plan (Production instance) does give you access to Portals.

If you are in Office 365 Global Admin, you should check under your CRM Production instance (Dynamics 365 Administration Center -> Instances Tab) that the portal is installed. Select you instances and click solution to see that a portal is installed.

If it's installed, you should check under Applications Tab, that you have the Portal is in Configured State. The portal name, would usually be the name of your portal url. You can select it and click Manage, to check the validity of your Portal. Trial portals should also appear there, but might be expired, which is possibly what you are experiencing.

    Hope this helps.
