Process Automation Batch jobs

Hello,
 
Can someone please let me know if these 2 Batch jobs are the same?
 
1. Process automation polling system job
2. Process automation background processes system job
 
If they are different what is the purpose of each Batch job

    In Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365 F&O), both Process Automation Polling System Job and Process Automation Background Processes System Job are part of the process automation framework, which helps in scheduling and executing recurring tasks. However, they serve different roles:

    1. Process Automation Polling System Job


    • This job is responsible for polling (checking) the system at regular intervals to identify if any scheduled process automation tasks need to be triggered.

    • It acts as a queue implementation in D365. For example, it is used in vendor invoice posting when invoices are approved for posting in a workflow. The invoice is added to the posting queue, and during the next polling job run, it will be posted in batch.

    2. Process Automation Background Processes System Job


    • Once the polling system job detects that a process needs to run, this background job handles the execution.

    • It processes the actual automation task, such as workflow executions, data processing, or other scheduled system tasks.

    • It works asynchronously and ensures that system performance is not impacted.

    Key Features of Process Automation in D365 F&O


    1.  Simplified Scheduling:


      • Process Automation provides an easier way to schedule processes as automated tasks in D365FO.

      • The system includes wizards to guide users in setting up batch jobs, making the process more user-friendly.

      2. Calendar View for Scheduled Jobs:

      • A key benefit of Process Automation is its simple calendar view, which allows users to see scheduled work.

      • The calendar view displays batch jobs for a week, providing better visibility into automation tasks  

    Conclusion


    • The Polling System Job identifies scheduled tasks and manages queue-based processing (e.g., vendor invoice posting).

    • The Background Processes System Job executes those tasks once they are identified.

    • Process Automation simplifies scheduling and offers an intuitive calendar view for better visibility.
     

    Both jobs work together to streamline automation in D365 F&O, improving efficiency and reducing manual intervention.

    Polling System Job: Monitors and identifies when an automation action should be triggered.
    Background Processes System Job: Executes the tasks or processes once they are identified by the polling job.
