"Refresh from Dynamics" will be deprecated, the followup Office Add-In doesn't work

Posted on by

In my organization we use "Refresh from CRM" in Excel to download a weekly report from our CRM data as part of an automated workflow. The button depends on the Outlook add-in which will be deprecated.

The 'light' add-in doesn't seem to offer the same functionality.

I tried to work with the Dynamics Office-Plugin but it only states 'failed to retrieve the server config" without any further indication of what to do. Also not sure what the opportunities are to automate (macros / connections) with this plugin.

Any advice on how to proceed?

I have but as far as I can tell:

-PowerQuery needs to download a complete database copy as filtering between tables is done clientside

-It takes a lot of merging tables to compute views that are done built in on the web, you get raw database tables. It is not straightforward to use an existing saved view. This means a lot of development for every single report we'd like to refresh in Excel. Hardly a substitute.

Hi Syed, the goal is to automate. As far as I can tell using templates would still require manual interaction with the CRM to download the information?

Alternatively you can change to excel template for your reporting.

Pls follow the below link how to create.

We use CRM online (company.crm4.dynamics.com) and Office 365 online.
