Home page modifications and Employee Self Service

Posted on by 572

I would like to offer employees access to View/Update their Profiles only.  They will not have access to Enter Time or View Paystubs, W4s or W2.  I have removed security to these windows, so it removes it from the content page, but would like to remove the menu items from their home page.  Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks
Debra

Yeah I just removed the Time Management object and do everything using shortcuts.  Without the ability to modify they are pretty much useless for us anyway.  We have shortcuts for Paystubs, Leave Management (Integrity Data) and W2's.  As we add new items I just use a SQL script to add the shortcut to all ESS users.

The content in the boxes on the home screens cannot be customized to my knowledge. You could use the Quick Link window and add the shortcuts you want, then remove the Time Management Window.

    Thanks

Not sure this is what you are looking for, but visibility of sections of the home page can be modified for users or as mass changes by updating the Visible field in DYNAMICS tables SY08100 and SY08120. Each section has a SECTION ID assigned to it. For example, SECTIONID 6 is the Microsoft Connect section of the home page.
Performing an update query to set visible=0 for SECTIONID=6 would result in removing the Microsoft Connect section from the home page of all USERIDs included in the query.

I believe the Time Management and Project Time and Expense sections are SECTIONID 5 and 7.

If you have multiple companies, you will also need to identify the DICTID associated with the company you want to update.

No...for Canadian Payroll, Encore offers a product that makes this change.  But there is no way an average end user can make these changes.  The Home page is not modifiable!

    Hi,

Was there any fix for that outside the customization of the home page?

    Thanks

Thanks for your replies.  I think I will need to find a way to customize the home page to remove the items.  When I customize the ESS roles it takes away the items from the menu palette but not from the home page.

    Hi Debra,

You are correct removing security will not help.  I am trying to figure out to deal with this but likely going to require customization unfortunately.  If you set your role to Self Service and login into the classic client it is the same issue so it is not unique to the web client just a shortcoming of the way these home page parts work.

    Hi Debra,

Can you post a screen capture on how you would like the home page look like ? i.e. which entries should be removed...

    Thank you.

Yes, I did modify the role, and it does remove the menu from the pallet, but not from the home page.

If it was just a regular window I would use modifier.  I guess we are looking at a customization :(

    Hi Debra,

You will likely have to customize one of the ESS_xxx roles that are provided out of the box by GP and remove access to the function you don't want them to 'see'.. There is no way to edit directly the menus in GP.
