Problem Occurred Creating a Session GP 2015 Web Client

Posted on by 75,730

I finished a fresh install of GP 2015 and GP 2015 web client. All services are running and Windows Firewall is turned off. When I attempt to log into the web client I get the "A problem occurred creating a session" message.

I am logged in as one of the web client admins and I have added this user to the GPWebClientUsers group in AD. In GP I have updated the GP user to this domain user. What else can I check? There are no messages in the Event Viewer.

Normally, HTTP 404 is a 'Page Not Found' error.

If you go into IIS Manager and look at the site you installed Web Management Console onto, if different from the site you installed Web Client onto, do you see the 'WebManagementConsole' virtual directory?

If so, are you using the url that you used for Web Client, which is similar only instead of using something like servername.domainname.com/GP, you'd use servername.domainname.com/webmanagementconsole instead?

    Thanks

Creating the new image now has me being able to log into the web client. However, I cannot log into the Web Management Console. I get the message "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found"

Thanks for the input Derek. As a point of information we have decided to fire up a new image and start from scratch. The thinking being that after spending 4 hours and getting nowhere it would be quicker to build a fresh sandbox and hope for the best. In our case this will work because when we roll out GP 2015 R2 it will be on a new box. I will keep this thread posted with updates as they progress.

    Hello Richard,

Since you have a support case opened, I'll let that technician handle that.

I just wanted to mention, as you probably already have realized, Web Client for Dynamics GP 2013 will create two databases: “GPWEBCLIENTSESSIONCENTRAL” and “GPWEBMANAGEMENT, whereas Web Client for Dynamics GP 2015 will only create the GPCONFIGURATION database.

Unfortunately, the 'problem occurred creating a session' error can be a few different causes.

For starters, we would need to know what type of environment you're setting up for Web Client? i.e. single server, multiple server.

Also, what type of certificate is being used? self-signed, CA or third-party and what the host name is going to be on each server if multi-server.

For creating sessions in Web Client, the GP Session Central Service and GP Session Service must be started/running on the server(s) they're installed onto.

Also, the application must be able to identify the server where these services exist, if using a multi-server environment with one or more web servers and one or more session host servers.

Again, since you have a support case opened, I'll defer to that, but I just wanted to put some information out here for the forum public.

    Thanks

I just spent almost 4 hours on the telephone with Microsoft support and still it is not working. We have it narrowed down to some security violation but cannot pinpoint the issue. It may have something to do with a tighter than normal AD structure.

    Hi Richard,

Never heard about those 2 DB's, but only GPCONFIGURATIION..

Have you checked the steps from this thread ? https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/152200

Or this blog entry from Mariano : http://dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.ca/2015/03/you-receive-you-are-not-allowed-to-use.html

I also vaguely recall that there is a program that needs to be executed from the GP web client setup, but can't find the exact details right now..

I ran across a tech note that said "Verify the databases “GPWEBCLIENTSESSIONCENTRAL” and “GPWEBMANAGEMENT”are created in the SQL Server. If not, create these databases using
    web client configuration wizard."

There is no application called Web Client Configuration Wizard. There is Web Component Wizard which references these databases. These databases do not exist either. Only the GPCONFIGURATION database exists.
