Accessing custom fields with Dynamics Excel plugin

Hi there,

I've created a custom field attached to the Worker table. I'm trying to add this field to an excel sheet using the Dynamics plug in (which I have used before) but the custom field is not showing up as an available field to add. Does anyone know if there is anything I can change to make my field useable by the dynamics plugin?

Hi ClaireWit,

I have a custom field in my worker entity and when I use excel addins then it is visible. Please check the below screenshot.

You are missing some setup.

Please follow the below process.

1. Create a custom field - In your case ignore this part

2. Add your entity in custom field setup form and Enable it, apply changes

3. Verify custom field in Data management > Entities. If not visible then go to modify target mapping and generate mapping and Save

4. Go to excel addins > before you create a workbook, verify whether your custom field is visible

Hi there, thank you for your quick response. Would you be able to expand on step 3? I'm not seeing my field in entities, and when I click on generate mapping this code pops up:

I tried clicking yes, but it just cleared the existing lines on that page and i didn't see anything about my fields.

I can click "New" which seems to let me create them, but I'm not sure what to put in the fields.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

In the system Admin-->Setup-->Custom filed. Select the field. After select the field system will show the entity. add in entity and regenerate the mapping.

I've added it to entities and hit apply changes, but it still does not show up in data management > data entites. Have I enabled the wrong entites? (the other two entites would not enable, I get an eror message about metadata failing).

Hi Claire,

You can enable the entity where you want to use a custom field, apply changes and wait for 5 min.

In your case, use this entity below entities for workers.

Go to Data management > Modify target entity and generate the mapping. Once this is done then you will be able to see your custom field.
