Production Control

Good Day to all!

Have a scenerio with a client and looking to streamline a process on Reporting as Finished a quantity during production contol.

Scenerio:

I have a batch order to make 200 feet of item A.

After Engineering inspects the item, they feel that all 200 feet of the produced item isn't worthy of being called product A, but only 50 Ft of it.  The remainder 150 Ft of the product produced would be product G.  This could vary batch to batch order, so it isn't a clear-cut yield or percentage, that could be a by-product or planned co-product either.  So another production order may product 70 feet of item A, and then 130 feet of item G.

The production batch order should reflect the job card with time effort, and the materials used to make A, although at the end of they order those same materials could produce that G item out of that same order.  So the material, labor, and indirect cost  should be reflected in that G item too.

With by-products and co-product, I need to include on the formula what the count is per 1, but I don't' know what that is every time I produce.  If I leave the quantity blank, I can't seem to report as finished the by-product more than 0.

Even if I could, not sure this would be the best practice in this scenerio.

Any thoughts, I'd be free to see what others have done, and if I figure this out, will share with the groups as well.

Hi Rich! It looks like you have the item setup as a by-product based on your description. If you want costs allocated, you would need to have it as a co-product. You would also need it as a co-product to report as finished without the initial "main product" being reported as well. By-products wont have cost associated to them when produced.
