Batch number selection on Sales Order Line

Hi Dynamics Community,

Please advise how to select Batch Number on Sales Order Line?  I have plenty of on-hand inventory with different batch and diff. expiry dates.  I have enabled FEFO in Item Model group and link the product to Batch number tracking.  Would I be able to see the batch number that the system selected on SO line and if indeed the stock with first expiry is the one that will be used.  Can I check the batch number used before I proceed with Posting the Packing Slip?

Thanks,

Reign.

    Hi Reign,

If you would like the system to select, automatically, which Batch to reserve to the Sales order line, try an Item model group which has Item sales reservation = Automatic. In this way, when you create the Sales order line, if there is stock that the sales order can use then it will automatically reserve that stock. I don't think F&O will necessarily populate the Batch field on the sales order line, but you can see which Batch has been reserved in several different ways:

    • using the Batch reservation form (this form allows you to change the Batch that is reserved, if you wish). This form can be found by using the Inventory button, which you see above the order lines.
    • Looking at the inventory transaction(s) associated to the order line (Inventory > Transactions).
    • Going to wherever you will go to pick the order (if you are using that functionality), such as Update line > Pick, or the Picking list registration function.

Note - this answer assumes you are not using the Warehouse module in F&O. If you were, the answer might be different!

    Hi Reign,

Generally how batch is determined for shipping depends on lots of factors. Please share if your item is enabled for advance warehouse processes or you are using normal shipping process.

If your items are enabled for advance warehouse processes then see my comments below.

"Would I be able to see the batch number that the system selected on SO line and if indeed the stock with first expiry is the one that will be used."

My comment - If your item has batch selected above location in reservation hierarchy and your item model group is setup for FEFO batch reservation then system will automatically reserve the batch with lowest expiry date.

If your item has batch selected below location in reservation hierarchy and your locations directives are configured for strategy FEFO batch picking system will create a work to pick the batch with lowest expiry date. (This happens inside warehouse management)

"Can I check the batch number used before I proceed with Posting the Packing Slip?"

My comment - You can view the reserved batch by the system in the transactions.
