Dear friends,

I would like to become MS NAV developer, I am basically from manual app testing background,  I would really appreciate if you could guide me on this.

1) can we use X++ to customize the apps in NAV?

2) is there a place where we can rent the environment to get hand on experience?

3) is there any online projects to practice?

thanks

    Hi, welcome aboard.

To be a NAV Developer, a best best always to start with is MSDN.

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh173988(v=nav.90).aspx

    1. X++ is used for Dynamics AX, for NAV you will go with C/AL.

    2. You can download the latest version copy from PartnerSource and get a development environment ready.

    3. You can go with studying the standard application, its structure, functionalities etc.

    Dear  newbie_edmon ,

    1.  Nop , NAV use C/AL

    2.  You can take a setup and start practice with demo version

    3.  there are no any online projects to practice , you need to find the setup

    Additional Resource  :

SQL Server : management studio is enough

    docs.microsoft.com/.../download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms

    Application guidance :

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh173988(v=nav.90).aspx

Basically  .NET C# C/AL(coding) bit of same , but C/AL have additional development environment platform

    Hey Friend,

Welcome to the World of ERP. I will reply your question as a layman.

For becoming a NAV developer the only thing is needed is the Passion inside, no if then this but else.

If you know anything like X++ it's an Ad-don for you, keep that with you, it will never go waste probably it may help you when you go deeper in NAV but as a Newbie you don't need that just C/Al is enough now. And why I am saying so is because people who have an Idea .NET and DLL'S they are a way more broader in technical side as compared to the one who just know C/Al.

For your second question, you can go and hit Partner Source and download the latest version and could start your Brainstorming. If someone in your friend list have the Build then you may ask from them as well to install the environment.

Online you will find ample of Document materials to study and learn and obviously you have this form and Mibuso along with DUG if you have some specific question to put on.

    START EXPERIENCING NAV :)

glad to see new people here

    What you need is

    1) Passion

    2) Knowledge of C/AL Synthacsis

    3) Knowledge of business processes ! Must have!

    4) Knowledge of NAV base functionality.

    5) Knowledge how to search information (google, community, and base NAV)

You can download the installation package from various sources, e.g. http://mibuso.com . This would give you a demo license and from MSDN you can get MSDN demo license (see difference here: community.dynamics.com/.../limitations-of-demo-amp-msdn-license).

    Hey!
It's great that you're looking to become an MS NAV developer. To answer your questions:
    • Nope, X++ is used with Microsoft Dynamics AX, not NAV. For NAV, you'll want to learn C/AL or AL for customizing apps.
    • Yes, you can rent environments for practice. Microsoft offers Dynamics 365 Business Central environments which include NAV features. You can check out their trials or partner offers.
    • Definitely! Check out platforms like GitHub for shared projects or look for community challenges online. These can give you some real hands-on practice.
    Hope that helps!
