Change Log entries

The system in the changelog shows no activities done on two particular days and yet it was a normal working day. No postings in the GL are showing despite Users having logged into the system and working as normal. Can someone assist me with why no entries are showing even when end-users were working and posting transactions that are not showing in the system?

I have the same question (0)

Are the mentioned areas being tracked by the change log and is the change log activated?

Also the g/l entry is a bad table to track as it changes so often. Surely just using the g/l registers page is satisfactory. It displays all postings made in the system by date, time and user.

Yes the Change Log is Activated and apprently it shows no one logged in on two particular dates...

Can the change log entries affect the performance of the system.? My database has grown to 58GB, with Change log entries as far back as 2016.

Yes Change log entries affect the database size, this totally depend upon where you have enabled it.

We should avoid Change log Entries on Ledger tables as we can already see the same in Ledger tables.

You can check G/L Registers to view the Log for ledger transactions.

    Hello @chilesr,

As i understand, Even having the normal work days and entries are being done (Posted/Parked), The change log entries aren't showing any change or activities done during those times -

Generally this is because one or more of the settings which might have been changed or removed from change log entry i.e. Since each and every activity can be logged there in, It might have been possible that someone by mistake must have deactivated the Change log entries.

Also, Please keep in mind that since every click is stored, It also consumes the storage, So if the storage capacity has reached it's limits, it might not be logging the entries in. This would also seen if it's impacting the system's performance.

You can check the settings here : docs.microsoft.com/.../across-log-changes

    Regards

    Karan

    I used this to delete some change log enteries..Departments/Administration/IT Administration/Data Deletion/Delete Entries" there you can see "Delete Change Log Entries" However the performance is still slow because the change log db is still large...So in my MS SQL Server 2014/MSSQL/  under DATA folder i have the following database sizes and i want to find ways of shrinking them;

    1. CompanyName_Data - 59GB

    2. CompanyName_Log - 10.9 GB

    3. Tempdb - 104GB

    4. templog - 2GB

If i can have ways to shrink the "tempdb of 104GB"

    Thanks

    Hello, @chilesr,

    That's a lot of space.

It seems that each and every activity is monitored in change log entries. There are options to remove few of the options which monitors each and every clicks of user but for the option of shrinking DB,

There are options available (Please do the same on Demo Instance first)

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/307487/how-to-shrink-the-tempdb-database-in-sql-server

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/databases/shrink-a-database?redirectedfrom=MSDN&view=sql-server-ver15

I'm sure either of the above mentioned links will be able to assist you in shrinking your TempDB.

    Regards

    Karan
