Can't load file or assembly - plugin referring to external .dll at the GAC

Hi Experts,

We are still using CRM 2013  on prem.  We have a plugin that has a reference to an external DLL on the GAC. We just updated the Server OS and the plugin stopped working. I used Gacutil to add the external DLL to the GAC and did an IISReset and recycled CRMAppPool but it still doesn work. Any advice? Currently we are not looking at merging .dlls.

Error: can't load external assembly ***.bbt.dll

GAC

***.bbt.dll is already in GAC

    Hi,

Please put the external DLL in the "\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Server\bin: and then do the IISRESET and try to test your plugin.

Pls mark as verified if this helps.

    Regards,

    Thangamani

Is the referenced assembly (***bbt.dll) dependent on any other assemblies, and if so, have they been deployed to the GAC ?

The fusion log viewer tool may help identify problems loading dependent assemblies

Hi David, thanks for the reply. Yes, there is another dependent assembly which is in the GAC already. I tried fusion log viewer tool on my local laptop but it didn't return any logs.  This plugin is registered at database.  I was using plugin profiler debug.

Thanks David. It is resolved now. The ***bbt.dll used in the plugin turned out to be different version from the one at the GAC. Not sure how it happened after server upgrade. But it is working now.
