Wireless station Store Operation/HQ Manager disconnection

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have 7 stations that does scanning an items to make POs and ITO/ITI.

But somehow we get disconnection from server couple of times a day while we scanning.

the error message we get is same as when the server disconnect, SQL server disconnection error message.

Is there any way that I can have SQL server time out longer? so that we won't get disconnect..?

Which OS should I use to install? can it be windows 7? or Windows server?

Do I need to have OS license per virtual machine?

How many virtual machine can I install on my server?

Thanks for your idea! I think this will help our team a lot!!!

I thought you only needed the wireless on one station.  Wired is always better.

But, that being said, here is how I would set it you for 7 stations.

You need a virtual machine for each station.  Then you remote rdp into that virtual machine.

You can run the virtual machines on a Hypervisor type Server OS, like esxi or MS HyperV.

vmware esxi has a free version.  It takes some setup and getting used to.

    Thanks for the suggestion ED!

Could you explain little more detail using virtual machine?

I tried using my scanner using through RDP directly to the server and it works fine.

My question is, you can only make 2 RDP connection to server. Do we need to purchase RDP license? I have 7 station that needs to using RDP.

Should I create more virtual server for 2 RDP server? so I do not have to purchase a license?

Should I use dedicated RDP server computer to host RDP connection?

RMS SO and POS need constant connectivity to its DB. It sends (Select * from cashier) command every second to DB to check the connectivity.

Over Wi fi you will face such issues hence you can follow the  above suggestion by ED. It works well with us.

Increase the timeout in SO Admin.

Also make sure your wireless connection does not go to sleep or become deactivated.

Alternatively you could run RMS under a virtual machine on the server and then RDP to the server.  Some Hardware is not supported but scanning would be if you are using a keyboard wedge scanner.

This is what I get... is there any way for us to hold the connection little longer?

Is this something to do with Wi-Fi hardware? or is SQL server issue?

    Thank you for your question.

Please note that wireless connections are not supported by RMS.

It is recommended that you change all connections to wired one to avoid this issue in the future.

    Thank you,

Open the SO Admin program.  Then goto File-> Configuration -> Database Tab.

Change the connection time out.  older versions defaulted to 15 or 30 seconds.  The current default is 60 seconds.

Just note: If you do become disconnected you will have to wait for the timeout period to lapse before you can close the application.  It will look like it froze up and will not respond.
