Having to select each variable when printing labels is tedious and time-consuming. Surely there is a way to set the default label, its format and printer in RMS; maybe a registry hack or something...anything, right? Has anyone figured out how to resolve this?

Ha! I think I figured this out....or at least something about it that helps a bunch.
So...if you get rid of all label formats you don't use, that takes one step out of the process which is nice indeed.
Then, assuming you are using a label printer that is set up as a windows printer (we use one of the Zebra Z Designer series) you CAN actually set a default printer for label wizard. So, set up your label printer in Windows, and under the windows settings for it (in printers and faxes, select properties for the label printer), set up the default preferences you need (label size, etc).
With those settings in place...in the registry you can set a value for the default printer (need to log in with priviliges to edit registry). The value in the registry is just the windows printer name, so easiest way is to go into the windows settings for the printer (again under printers/faxes properties) and just copy the full name of the printer.
So then, in the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Retail Management System\Store Operations\MRU\LabelWizard. Paste your printer name in for the DefaultPrinter key value. That should set your default.
Hope it works!

John,
Yes! We are looking for the same functionality as well. We removed all the label templates except for the couple we use, which makes it less confusing. But really our biggest problem is that we want to set the default printer. For some reason I cannot get it to remember the printer we used last time to print labels, and also it never remembers its printer properties settings (so every time we use the wizard, we have to select the printer (because it always wants to go back to the windows default printer), then go into printer preferences and set the label size. Very tedious...anyone figured this one out yet?
Thanks!

Hi John,
You could remove all the label templates except the one you use from the RMS LABELS folder. Then only the remaining label would appear as an option in the Label Wizard.
