I am receiving an error message indicating I cannot delete the child. The relationship has changed and I would like to unlink the child at this time but still maintain their sales history all in one spot (so creating a new customer id is not ideal). BTW - there are other child ID's linked to this national account that are still valid.

Hi Joanne,
Thank you for the reply to let me know that using the unsupported method allowed you to unlink the National Accounts.
Have a great day!
I used the unsupported method - removing the CPRCTNM field from the rm30201 and then was able to remove the child account from the parent account and that seems to be working very well.

Hello,
Thank you for for using the Community Forums.
What the Community has provided is the supported method to remove a child from a parent in National Accounts.
If you need to have the history associated to the child account you could consider removing the link in the RM00101. The field that creates this link is the CPRCTNM.
This is not a supported method of removing the National Accounts relationship because there is no guarantee your data will not be damaged and that reports will be correct. However, if you wish to do this, you should do this in a test company first and then test to make sure you are satisfied with the results.
I process does appears to work, and not affect any history, but it is still unsupported. I ran checklinks after removing the child from the parent in the RM00101, and the parent ID did remain on the apply records in history, so my reports still came out correctly. So, at this time it seems to work, but again this is not a supported method so you would be responsible to test it out and make the decision. You would have to test some maintenance items as well, like voiding one of the payments, to see what you encounter. You would have to test your reports such as the Trial Balance. If you run any "National Account" reports, they may be affected.
I have seen other customers take this route, but the testing would be up to you, so that you know what to expect with your normal process.
I hope this information is helpful. Please post back if we can be of further assistance.
Have a great day!
Dave B.
Thanks for your help.
Our target is exactly the same with yours on "to keep the history rolling up where it’s at and simply remove the link going forward". Could you please let me know if you have any updates?
Thanks again.
Hi SLIU - We were provided two options as follows. The first destroys the history, so it does not meet our needs. The second seems reasonable, but we have not moved forward with this because we’re trying to understand how our customer group reporting will be affected. Ideally, we want to keep the history rolling up where it’s at and simply remove the link going forward. I have not received any information suggesting this is possible.
Scope Agreement:
I understand that you would like to remove a child that has been linked to a parent. This national account relation already has apply information and open and historical transactions. You want to know how to unlink the customer account.
A child customer can't be removed from the National Account setup if you have any transactions existing between the two.
OPTION 1:
The only way you can remove the Child assignment to the Parent Account is to move all linked transactions to history through Paid Transaction Removal (Routines | Sales | Paid Transaction Removal). Open Transactions can be voided and once Paid Transaction Removal (PTR) is ran, voided transactions will be moved to history as well. Once all linked transactions are in history, we can run Remove Transaction History on the linked transactions for both Parent and Child Customer.
After making sure that there is no inter-customer transaction left on the Child-Parent relationship, we can remove the Child from the National Account Card:
1. Go to Cards | Sales | National Accounts.
2. Highlight the line that holds the child account.
3. Click Edit | Delete Row.
There is no way we can prevent transactions for this inter-customer relationship, unless you put the child account on hold. You cannot enter new transactions for password-protected Customers on hold. To put the customer on hold:
1. Go to Setup | Sales | Receivables.
2. Enter a password for Remove Customer Hold.
3. Go to Cards | Sales | Customer, pull up the Child account and click Hold.
4. Only users who know the password to remove the hold can enter transactions to Customers on hold.
** You can limit the number of users who know the password.
** Remove security from the Receivables Management setup window (Setup | Sales | Receivables) so users cannot see the password setup. You can remove security from windows in Setup | System | Security. Choose user ID, Company ID, Great Plains, Window and Sales. Unmark "Receivables Management Setup" by double-clicking on it.
OPTION 2 (which it sounds like you've explored):
1. Purchase the registration keys for the Customer Combiner tool in Professional Services Tools Library (PSTL).
PSTL can be installed from the CD 2 of Great Plains. Some tools in this product are free but most of them need to be purchased. I have attached a manual of this tool for your reference.
2. Setup a new Customer Record for the child account. Setup the new record exactly like you setup the old record. Don't assign it to the same Parent.
3. Launch PSTL and choose Customer Combiner. Click Next.
4. In Starting Customer, enter the old Customer record.
5. In the Combined Into Customer Number, enter the new Customer Record.
6. Click Convert.
The Old record will be deleted from the National Account relationship. Transactions are maintained.
Unfortunately, these are the only supported methods to unlink a child from a parent nat'l account.

Hi Ceschunm,
Have you worked out how this can be done? We are having a similar needs here as well.
We want to be able to transfer some child customer accounts from one national account to another without losing sales history and holding info. Is this possible?
Thanks, Richard. We do want to keep the sales history with the child. We run sales reports and calculate commissions/rebates, so the continuity is important. We are also installing CRM, so the sales person will want that continuity also. Payments are not so important in this regard; it's the sales history we're interested in retaining. Any thoughts?
When you say "maintain the sales history" are you talking about keeping sales history with the parent or child? Typically, the two accounts are very tightly twisted together with payments from the parent paying off invoices from the children. The only good way is to create a new account for the now-independent customer.
