Changing fiscal year to calendar year

Our company is going to change from a fiscal year to a calendar year so therefore i need to make december a year of its own. Our current fiscal runs Dec 1-Nov 30th and we are going to start going by the calendar year. Currently we are in fiscal 2014, when i do december on its own it will say 2015. What will it generate when i say our next year is 1/2015-12/31/15?  I want to make sure it doesn't jump to 2016.

    RE: Changing fiscal year to calendar year

    I just tried the PSTL route for a client and did not really work.

    Example of fiscal year change:

    Old Year 2014 was 3/1/13 to 2/28/14.   Same dates but now labeled as 2013 as the new year.

    Ran Reconcile Utility.

    Now all transactions in History Summary for 2014 are shown in Beginning Balance (everything totals but all show as period 0) in Summary also the year did not move.    In looking at the GL30000 table, it appears that they are still tagged with the old year.

    So it appears that the Reconcile Utility does not adjust the detail transactions dates and only impacts the summary table by bringing them in to period 0.

    Any thoughts?

    Warren.

    RE: Changing fiscal year to calendar year

    Hi Amy,

    I just had to do this for a client, and Beat Bucher e-mailed me yesterday morning with the same situation. This seems to be a hot topic this year.

    For my client, they went the PSTL route and we redefined the year labels so that everything backed up a year. You have to go all the way back to when you started using Dynamics, but the process is quite painless.  Beat's CFO suggested using 2114 for the short period so that the history stayed the same and 2015 could have a proper label.

    I tried it and it worked just fine. GP closes the years according to the fiscal year dates, not the date labels, so your close will be fine at year end.

    Do either of these options work for you?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    RE: Changing fiscal year to calendar year

    You can change the fiscal year as below.

    2015 = 1/1/2015 to 12/31/2015

    2014 = 12/1/2013 to 12/31/2014 (Its a long year 13 period)

    2013 = 12/1/2012 to 11/30/2013

    Hope this helps!!!

    RE: Changing fiscal year to calendar year

    Under the scenario that you are planning, the year 1/1/2015 to 12/31/2015 will be labeled 2016. Each year can only appear once in Fiscal Period Setup.

    You could extend year 2014 to make it a 13 period year - 12/1/2013 to 12/31/2014  which will keep your year labels in sync.

    If that is not an option you can use the Fiscal Period Modifier in Professional Services Tools Library to change labels for the current and previous years.  i.e. 12/1/2013 - 11/30/2014 would be year 2013, etc.
