I recently added a 2nd POS and it is not connecting the database on the 1st POS. The database is on Windows 7 Pro. 2nd POS has Windows 7 Home. From the 2nd POS computer, I can access the file system of the 1st computer. In the RMS Administrator, when I try to connect to the database, it says it cannot find it. HELP.....

Hi Mas, there are so many variables to this that an answer here would be difficult. If you have a remote support tool, like logmein, someone could connect and help you.

I tried few things like turning off the firewall of SQL PC. It connects if i open Port 1433 on that machine. Is that safe? Do I have to open the port on both inbound and outbound?

You do have to have the firewall configured to allow access to SQL Server. There are many articles on this, but here is one: technet.microsoft.com/.../cc646023.aspx

You can probably search this site and find more Mas.

The article you linked says Port 1433 is the common port to open in firewall to allow access to SQL. If I do not have to open that port, how else can I access the SQL Server?

You can not access the server, or anything else on the computer, unless the firewall allows it.  So, yes you have to open this port or another port, and change the sql server to listen on that port.

With POS 2009, you have to Be at Windows 7 Professional or higher. I had the same issue and there are a few things you must do:

    1. Make sure you are using the same account name and password on both computers

    2. Try using the IP address instead of the name when joining

    3. If that doesn't work, you will have to enable the Administrator account on both PCs and try it again using the IP address. If that still doesn't work, disable the firewalls on both and restart and try again.

Once the initial setup works, you can go back to using a regular ID with Admin privledges.

My situation is with RMS Store Op 2.0. I made it work by opening the outbound and inbound port 1433.
