Unique journal entry sequence numbers?

Does GP10 store a field somewhere that assigns a unique sequence number to every line of every journal entry?  I need a unique identifyer for every line of every journal entry, whether manual, recurring, reversing, intercompany or whatever.  I've found something called "Originating Sequence Number", but it's zero for every transaction line I have.

Any help?

The only field that will be unique in the GL20000 and GL30000 will be the DEX_ROW_ID field. There will be now way to tie that back to any sub-ledger table. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

We have established a data connection to pull GL transactions into Excel.  The spreadsheets are such that we update/refresh the year-to-date transaction detail at least once a month.  The problem we have in a few instances is that when Excel re-pulls the GP data, it doesn't always pull the transactions in the same order - which creates problems.  I was hoping to use a unique sequence number field as the data connection sort field so that it would always pull the data in the same order.  I hope this makes sense.

Well the dex_row_id can serve that purpose. It is a SQL unique identifier field. It value will never change and it will always be unique.

    Hi,

I agree with Richard, you can use the Dex_Row_ID column for sorting. It is unique for each row in each table and does not change.

Thanks.  That looks like what I needed.  I appreciate your help.

Looks like I spoke too soon.  I included the DEX_ROW_ID in my query and I see that numerous rows have the same number in that field.  Did I miss something?

Nevermind.  I found my mistake.  I was picking up the DEX_ROW_ID from the GL00100 database, not the GL20000.  I've changed it and now they appear to be unique.

    Thanks again all.

    Hi Tholmes,

When you created unique identifiers for each JE, did it affect the sorting any of the reports, for example the Journal Entry Inquiry Report? I have a similar case in that my client wants their JE transactions to be sorted in an easier way to read. However, due to the sorting options in the account format, the accounts are sorted in a specific order, account, department, and project.

    Best,

    Ronald
