Hi All,

I am attempting to customise my straight out of the box Dynamics CRM.

I need a form that can be scalable to include multiple sub-forms

For example:

The business provides digital signage solutions so I have a new entity called 'Site Info'. I want this entity to store records about what assets are located at each site and how they are related. So,

Player –number, type, serial, purchase date

                        Display(s) – type, serial, connection type (VGA/DVI)

My issue is, each site can contain any number of players and each player can be connected to any number of displays. I can't seem to find any sub-form feature whereby I can add new and multiple entries with a single record.

I hope this request makes sense. Please let me know if I can provide any further information.

Thanks,

Dan

I've done something similar, but I managed to do it several years ago by creating Entities as activities, then customising the activities. This way I was able to create many "sub-relationships" as activities, and had them viewable in a grid on the same form all the while staying on my primary form. The other solution given was to work directly from the sub-form, then add entities (accounts, contacts) etc. however this didn't work for me as I wanted a streamlined approach. There are other approaches but this is probably the easiest.

    Hi Dan,

Yes, your only option is to create a sub-grid on the form and add the related items one at a time.  Otherwise, you get into more of a custom screen in order to streamline the process further.

    Hello,

I am now attempting something slightly different. At the moment I am happy to come to the fact that I can't add a sub-form. I am attempting try and use connections with a sub-grid to view related equipment to the site.

However, I am struggling to filter the equipment ( a new entity I made) correctly. I can filter the equipment to list only equipment that has a connection but I can't seem to filter equipment that is connected to the record being viewed.

Is it possible to view only related connections in a sub-grid? FYI, I am using the contacts entity as the site record.

Please let me know if I can provide any further information.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Basically, I want The 'Active Connection: Associated View' but in a sub grid so I can view this in the form, rather than clicking, switch to classic form view, then click connections on the left nav bar.

    I Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the clarity in what you are looking for.  I hope I fully understand your request but I believe you can accomplish this goal pretty easily.  Essentially you can go through the following.

    1. Open a Contact record
    2. Click on the ellipse and go to Form Editor
    3. Go to the section that you want to add the sub-grid.
    4. Click on Insert at the top
    5. Click on Sub-Grid
    6. Give it a Name and then within the Data Source, simply select the following options:
      Records: Only Related Records
      Entity: Connections (Connected From)
      Default View: Active Connections

    7. Click on OK
    8. Click on Home.
    9. Click on Save
    10. Click on Publish

That  should render the sub-grid on the Form:

    Hope this helps!
