Pick + Forward (Flushing method) does not exist as a concept in Manufacturing

If Advanced warehousing is turned on, Pick + Forward flushing method does not exist as a concept in manufacturing. There is no way you can create a warehouse pick prior to the production order been released to the manufacturing floor (not at Firm Planned). You would have to create something like a movement worksheet to get the items from the bins to production bins first but this is quite cumbersome when you've got a large quantity of items required for each production order. Therefore I would argue that the concept of having a Pick + Forward flushing really doesn't exist.
The pick worksheet does not work for film planned production orders either in case that may be a suggestion.
I would also argue that the forward flushing method is only useful if your components are in your production bin.

    Hello ,

Your assessment is basically correct. With Advanced Warehousing enabled, the classic Pick + Forward Flush manufacturing concept effectively breaks down: you cannot create warehouse picks for Firm Planned Production Orders, only for Released ones, so there is no way to pre-pick components in advance of release. That leaves you with Movement Worksheets to stage material into production bins, which is operationally heavy when BOMs are large. As a result, forward flushing only makes practical sense if components are already sitting in the production bin, otherwise there is nothing for BC to “auto-consume.” This is a known design limitation: advanced warehousing shifts control to warehouse documents, and manufacturing flushing logic never fully adapted to that model. In real life, most sites either (a) backflush, or (b) manually stage via movements and accept the overhead.

    HI,

BC does support a “Pick + Forward” flushing method in manufacturing when Advanced Warehousing is enabled. It is a valid flushing option you can set on components, just like Forward, Backward, Pick + Backward, and Pick + Manual. It will automatically post component consumption when production starts, but only after the warehouse pick is registered. That means you cannot generate a warehouse pick before the order is released, picks are tied to the production order status and routing link behavior. In practice, if you want to pick items before the order hits Released, you’d have to use a separate Movement Worksheet or non‑standard process, there’s no built‑in “pre‑release pick + forward flush” concept that fires before releasing a production order.

    Standard flushing behavior from Microsoft:

    • “Pick + Forward” works only when Advanced Warehouse is used and the To‑Production bin is defined; component consumption is posted from that bin after the pick is registered and the production operation starts.
    • The production order must be at least Released for the pick to be created/registered, so there’s no automatic warehouse pick at Firm Planned as part of manufacturing flow.

So, the statement that “Pick + Forward flushing does not exist at all” isn’t correct, it is a real flushing method in BC – but the notion that you can do a warehouse pick before release or at firm planned purely through the manufacturing pick process is not supported. Any pre‑release bin transfer must be done manually (Movement Worksheet or custom logic).

In short: Pick + Forward exists, but you can’t automate a pick prior to Released using the standard manufacturing flow.
