Please go to Market Extension and find Gitlens extension in visual stiudio code, its easy to create your AL code repository, for more information you can follow below Hougaard's Video, here he is showing step by step how to Use git wihtout using command prompt.

. Install Git For Windows Software
. Create your Al Project Locally
Then follow this to push your local project to Git Remote

By default, you will have the main branch and if you need to work/create other branches or merge read this
